Distillerie Fratelli Branca was the first Italian company to sell its bitter, Fernet-Branca, all over the world. The success started with the secret herbal liqueur recipe the family created 170 years ago. After winning several awards in Europe in the 1860s and 70s, the family realized that Fernet-Branca was not just a local phenomena. By the end of the 19th century, Fernet-Branca was a globally recognized product all the way from the US to Australia.
At the start of the 20th century, the family set up production plants in Italy, Switzerland, France, Argentina, and the US. Today, the company has only two production plants in Milan and Buenos Aires but distributes its bitters in 160 countries. The brand remains a global success. In 2014, it was named the 4th Fastest Growing International Brand and The Fastest Growing Bitter in the world.
The distinct flavor that is Fernet-Branca is a result of the way the 27 herbs from four continents are processed and blended in Slavonian oak barrels for 13 months. The recipe is a guarded family secret that still remains impossible to reproduce.
