LAGO designs and manufactures Made in Italy furnishings, creating pieces suitable for all areas of the home and public spaces such as hotels, restaurants, shops and work spaces. For LAGO, contemporary craftsmanship is based on customization. Each modular system with its infinite geometries provides unique and tailored solutions to each space.
The company was founded in 1976 by Giuseppe Lago in Villa del Conte, but in reality it dates back to the late 19th century with Policarpo Lago, an artisan cabinet maker in Venice. Throughout the years, the family has expanded its product range to include furniture for all rooms of the house.
The fourth generation was responsible for listing LAGO on the stock market in 2006 and taking it into international markets. Today LAGO is sold in 20 countries around the world in over 900 stores. It has also completed more than 150 projects for hotels, B&Bs, commercial spaces, restaurants, bars and offices in cities such as Rome, London, Paris, and Saigon.
Grounded in the philosophy that design is a tool for social transformation and useful for responding to the needs of contemporary living, LAGO designs interiors to improve people’s interior lives. This manifests itself in designs such as the suspended bed with a single central support invisible to the eye that lightens the heaviness of daily life.
LAGO is strongly committed to always choosing quality as it designs solutions to human needs. This starts in the factory, or rather the“non-factory,” a 11,000 square meter work space designed by architect Italo Chiucchini according to the principles of domestic green building and bio-architecture. Appearing more as a house than a factory, the non-factory is a pleasant work environment for LAGO employees to create.
Every piece of furniture that comes out of the LAGO FABBRICA is made with great attention to the quality and durability of the materials, combining the reliability of industrial processes and the dedication of craftsmanship. Those who work on the product make use of their wealth of experience built over time. With the intelligence of their fingertips, they are attentive to every detail, even the least visible.
As a testament to LAGO’s excellence, it has won countless awards throughout the years including the Good Design Award, an industrial design program organized annually by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.
